The GEO-ENERGY EUROPE metacluster is a voluntary, open alliance of complementary clusters focusing on sustainability and the transition to a decarbonised and sustainable use of geo energy. GEO-ENERGY EUROPE aims to create a European Strategic Cluster Partnership in geothermal energy and to develop a joint internationalisation strategy to help the clusters access worldwide geothermal markets. The overarching vision for the GEO-ENERGY EUROPE metacluster is to develop a stronger and more integrated European sustainable geo energy sector, especially for Small & Medium Enterprises. Indeed, Europe is a leading continent in geoscience and subsurface engineering but has a limited level of integration between different subsurface industries. It also has limited visibility in worldwide geothermal markets, which are currently expanding. GEO-ENERGY EUROPE provides a platform for knowledge transfer, technology transfer, marketing, and other networking services. The GEO-ENERGY EUROPE metacluster promotes the internationalisation of European small and medium companies with the organisation of several capacity building workshops in France, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Hungary and Turkey. To boost the international outreach, the metacluster has created tight partnerships with structuring clusters in target markets, notably in Canada and Kenya, and is setting up new relationships in key global geothermal markets. Partners also participates in international conferences and trade fairs (such as the European Geothermal Congress) to find new business opportunities at global level. In addition, GEO-ENERGY EUROPE is promoting the set up of a European framework for facilitating the internationalisation of European companies in the geo energy sector. This is the second project funded after the first 2 year capacity building programme. The GEO-ENERGY EUROPE project was funded by the European Union’s COSME Programme under Grant Agreement N. 951195. It runs from September 2020 until August 2022. The metacluster currently represents over 600 members including 300+ SMEs from 23 different countries and covers the entire deep geothermal value chain. The partners of the metacluster are 9 cluster organisations: Geoscience Ireland; Pole Avenia ; EGEC Geothermal; GEODEEP; CAPES; JESDER; COSVIG-DTE2V; GEOENERGY CELLE; EV and GEOPLAT. Geoscience Ireland is the coordinator.
